We’re excited to introduce and welcome our newest team member, Robert Wintersteller, to Odds Reactor. With over 18 years of experience in the betting industry—gained through multiple roles at Betting Promotion, a leader in developing in-house trading engines and comprehensive sportsbook solutions worldwide — Robert brings invaluable expertise and a fresh perspective to our team.

In a recent Q&A, Robert shared his insights on his career and the evolving industry:

Can you share your career journey and what initially drew you into the iGaming world?
My career began in 2006 as a trading developer, where I focused on developing in-play models for various sports. At the time, in-play betting was still a relatively new concept, which presented unique challenges in evaluating and comparing it to existing products. On the flip side, it also made it easier to innovate since the market wasn’t as price-sensitive as it is today.

Coming straight from university, it was incredibly exciting to see how the models we built, from concept to production, could generate such significant profits. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats, moving into project management and product development roles, and in recent years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director.

What initially drew me into the iGaming world, especially sports betting, was my deep passion for all types of sports. From a young age, I was fascinated not only by playing and following sports but also by keeping track of results, statistics, and trends. I remember diligently recording every result from the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1990 World Cup in a notebook, long before I had any concept of betting or odds. As I grew older and started understanding the mathematics behind odds, I had no idea that this interest would eventually lead me into a career in the iGaming industry.

What aspect of the sports betting industry excites you the most?
For me, the most exciting aspect of the sports betting industry is the dynamic intersection of sports, mathematics, entertainment, and cutting-edge technology. Over the past decade, we’ve seen an explosion of technological advancements, which has opened up a world of possibilities for new features, innovations, and improvements in the industry. Being a part of this rapidly evolving landscape is incredibly thrilling. The ability to harness data, AI, and new technologies to enhance the betting experience and make it more engaging for customers is something I find truly fascinating.

What inspired you to join Odds Reactor, and how would you describe your role on the team?
I first met the team at Odds Reactor in 2019 during an exhibition in London. At that time, I didn’t know much about the company, but our conversation left a strong impression on me. I could immediately sense the similarities between Odds Reactor and the company I was with at the time, particularly in terms of the innovative spirit and shared vision.

Fast forward to the autumn of 2024, and our paths crossed again. This time, the discussions became much more concrete. Odds Reactor had decided to scale up its B2B business, with a particular focus on developing their in-house AI risk management system. They were looking for someone with experience in this space, and I found the challenge to be both exciting and aligned with my background. I was quickly drawn to the potential of both the company and the project, and, equally important, the highly driven and focused team behind it.

In my role, I’m primarily responsible for growing this relatively new B2B vertical, while also taking on a variety of other responsibilities that come with being part of a fast-growing, nimble company. This includes setting strategic targets, participating in product development and design, overseeing recruitment, and contributing to sales and marketing. Fortunately, I’m part of an exceptional team with deep industry experience, which makes the journey that much easier and more enjoyable.

How would you describe your experience working at Odds Reactor thus far?
Although I’ve only been with Odds Reactor for about four months, it already feels like I’ve been with the team for years. The onboarding process was incredibly warm, thorough, and educational, which helped me transition smoothly into the role. Despite working remotely most of the time (the company has an office in Finland, while I live in Sweden), everything has run seamlessly, thanks to strong communication and support.

What truly stands out to me about the team is their intense focus on achieving goals. Every person here is laser-focused on the company’s mission and knows exactly how to contribute to getting there. There’s a strong sense of direction, and nothing gets overlooked or ignored. It’s been a pleasure to be part of such a dedicated, results-oriented team, and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together moving forward.

Drawing on your extensive experience in risk management and trading, what emerging trends do you expect will shape the future of sports betting, and how should operators adapt?
Up until now, much of the focus in sports betting has been on expanding coverage and introducing new feature innovations, such as advanced Bet Builders and micro-betting, especially in newly opened markets where certain content is essential for success. However, this rapid expansion has often outpaced the development of systems to properly manage the increased volume of bets and associated risks.

For instance, how much does a European provider truly understand the nuances of a regional league in Brazil? As operators scale content to include minor leagues and new markets, the resources needed to effectively manage risk grow exponentially. In such cases, a robust, well-functioning risk management system becomes crucial.

Another emerging trend I see is the growing attention on the fairness of limiting or restricting smart punters. Historically, operators have used various methods to manage the risk posed by sharp bettors, but I think this approach will be under increasing scrutiny by regulators and other stakeholders. The industry is now asking, “Can this be done in a fairer, more transparent way?” I believe the answer is yes, and this is precisely where Odds Reactor plays a pivotal role, offering a smarter, more efficient approach to risk management that not only helps operators handle these challenges but also ensures a fairer experience for all users.

As the industry continues to evolve, operators must embrace more sophisticated risk management solutions that can scale with the increasing complexity of global markets and the expanding scope of betting opportunities. Being proactive in adapting to these changes will be key to staying competitive in the future.

Robert’s deep insights and innovative mindset will be instrumental in driving our mission forward. His arrival marks an exciting new chapter as we continue to develop solutions covering every aspect of sportsbook operations—from dynamic trading services to robust bet validation systems.
Welcome, Robert – we’re thrilled to have you on board as we shape the future of sports betting together.
